Concert by Cantor Netanel Hershtik

Born in 1978 in London, Hershtik began singing as a child, appearing regularly as a soloist in the Jerusalem Great Synagogue with his father, Naftali Hershtik. At the age of seven, he toured with his father in Australia, throughout America and Europe. He went on to study at the Horev Yeshiva High School in Jerusalem and in Yeshivat Midbara K’Eden, served as an IDF combat paramedic, then graduated with an L.L.B. degree from Sha’arei Mishpat College of Law. He completed his L.L.M at the University of Miami’s School of Law. Along with his legal studies, he pursued musical studies at the Tel Aviv Cantorial Institute and under Cantor Chaim Feifel, composer Raymond Goldstein and others. Hershtik has served as Chief Cantor of The Hampton Synagogue, New York under the leadership of Rabbi Marc Schneier since 2005.

Hershtik’s many appearances in Israel and abroad include performances with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and many of the world’s leading choirs. He has sung at the Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Vienna Konzerthaus, Sydney Opera House and the Casino de Paris, among other leading venues. He was the first cantor invited to perform a cantorial concert at the Berlin Philharmonie and at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and the first to be invited to perform for the United Nations in a Holocaust remembrance ceremony (2006).

Netanel Hershtik made his Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as the Cantor in Na’ama Zisser’s new opera Mamzer Bastard, and became the first cantor in history to assume an operatic cantorial role.
